[MY FAVOURITE THING TODAY] Pharrell Williams is 40 years old, perfect and obviously a vampire. Read New York Magazine’s Nitsuh Abebe’s great article on what the prolific hit maker has been up to HERE.
[THURSDAY TUNEAGE] Mafikizolo’s ‘Khona’ is my fave local track of 2013 thus far. The vid’s cute. But. More power vogueing. And horses. Please?
Earlier today Kelly Rowland released a her brand new single Dirty Laundry off her upcoming album Talk A Good Game. which is set to be release on June 18th 2013 . On “Dirty Laundry” Kelly speaks on surviving an abusive relationship and admits her jealousy towards Beyonce.
“I was battered. He’s hitting the window like it was me /
And still it shattered. He pulled me out and said ‘Don’t nobody love you but me / Not your mama / Not your daddy / and especially not Bee.
“It was very emotional. It took me days to record, I had to get past being so upset and actually sing the song, not sob through it. I always hope that my music can inspire someone, the same way other artists inspire me. Dream said, ‘I want to write you a record so that people will know exactly who you are, underneath it all.’” Rowland tells Billboard.com
When my sister was onstage, killing it like a mother-fu*ker/
I was enraged, feeling it like a mother-fu*ker
[MUSIC MONDAY] She’s straight up spoiling us: Azealia Banks just released a new vid for her song ‘Atlantis’ off Fantasea. Very MIA. Very Santigold. Very Rye Rye. Loves it.
[MY FAVOURITE THING TODAY] Azealia Banks released this little snippet - a vid for her song ‘Fierce’ (off the Fantasea mixtape). She better blow up big time, my love for her, though…
[TUESDAY TUNEAGE] Solange Knowles’ new video for her song ‘Losing You’ was shot right here in Cape Town, South Africa.
This is what she told Pitchfork about the concept:
When Melina [Matsoukas] and I decided to film ‘Losing You’ in South Africa, we really didn’t have a real firm concept in place. It was sort of a grab a camera and let’s go moment. I knew I wanted to capture a couple things: the vibe of our friendship and all of the crazy escapades we’ve gotten ourselves into all over the world, and the abstract and elegant Le Sape Society (Society for the Advancement of People of Elegance) formed in the Congo which was documented by Daniele Tamagni in his Gentleman of Bacongo book. We called Daniele to guide us, and some of my friends from New York came down to Cape Town and we all had a very damn good time.”
I always have such Intense Feelings about ‘poverty porn’ and think the Le Sape Society concept is well executed, but what about South African subcultures?
Anyways, let me reserve my Opinions. The video’s cute, I love the cameos by familiar faces such as ELLE Fashion Editor Asanda Sizani, and this will probably be my summer jam.
[TGIF TUNE] Well, it’s not Friday yet, but I thought I’d post this vid anyways. Miss Azealia Banks’ new vid for ‘Luxury’ - one of my fave songs off her Fantasea mixtape - has just hit the internet. Yung Rapunxel is honestly the real thing. Never change.
[TUESDAY TUNEAGE] I’m fully obsessed with Reason’s Audio3D album. I know I deserve the latest of late passes on this, but it’s so fresh - my summer soundtrack is sorted. Take a look and listen to ‘Do it like I can’.
[MIXTAPE MONDAY] I’ve been listening to Miss Azealia Banks’ FANTASEA mixtape for a few days. And I’m officially sold. It’s a blazer. Find the download link HERE.
[MAG FAB] My current music crush, Elle Varner, stars in the Spring 2012 cover shoot for AMMO magazine.
When asked what’s next for the songstress, she said:
I see myself being at the very very very very very top of the music game period but especially as a R&B singer. I think it’s time to take it back to the days when R&B was dominating and you had your Whitney Houston’s and your Mariah Carey’s and it was all good. I miss those days and I think it’s time for a change. I strongly feel that I’m a contender for that position.
